Research information:

I am an artist and a photographer. I have been teaching art for 25 years. I am current in the debates between traditional and digital photography as well as the role of photography in contemporary art practice. I have designed and supervised the operation of two digital photography labs, one for teaching groups and at the graduate level, for advanced techniques and large-format printing. I am interested in the predominance of women in art schools, and as photography students. I am concerned that this dominance at the undergraduate educational level is superseded by a lack of presence and visibility in the art market, the museums and the commercial photography sectors.  I also have experience in curriculum development as well as accreditation reviews with governmental and institutional regulation organizations. I am interested in the education of artists, and in art as an important education for all of society. I have been a member of peer reviewed juries, with many art councils and organizations at the federal, provincial and municipal levels.

I specialize in teaching Spanish as a foreign language. My experience as a part-time professor at the University has allowed me to be in contact with people of different ages and backgrounds. More than five years of experience teaching Spanish have shaped me as a teacher who can adapt different teaching methods to the specific needs of each student.

My education includes a master's degree in Spanish from the University of Ottawa and a Ph.D. in Spanish that I will get in spring 2013.

As private Spanish tutor, I had among my students, federal government employees, school students and retired adults who want to learn or improve their Spanish.

In my classes, I try to include as part of learning, the masterpieces of Hispanic American authors, Hispanic songs, newspaper articles and other materials that can improve the process of learning a new language.

Since 2015, Dr. Leroux has been studying the changing dynamics of white, French-descendant identities in the 21st century, particularly as it pertains to increasing claims to "Indigenous" identities among this group. His book, Distorted Descent: White Claims to Indigenous Identity, was selected as one of the ten most influential books published by the University of Manitoba Press in the past decade. His research continues to push the boundaries in the study of white identities, and as such, he is widely sought after as a public speaker on matters related to contemporary forms of settler colonialism.

Research information:

In her work, Jinny Yu attempts simultaneously to scrutinize conventions of painting and to explore new possibilities within the medium. Oscillating between the fields of the abstract painting and the object, her work seeks out aspects of painting beyond the pictorial space: she strives to depict that which is beyond the image and deliberately reveals the gestural aspect of painting as praxis. She frequently paints with oil on aluminum, whose semi-reflective surface comprises a pictorial space. This choice of materials is integral to her artistic practice and conceptual musings; the pictorial space of the aluminum is a material fact, a pre-existing condition of the as yet unpainted surface, and by painting on such a surface, one that is already pictorial, Yu's work begins where painting often ends.
