Dr. Bariciak specializes in the care of critically ill and extremely premature newborn infants in the Neonatal Intensive Care Units at the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario and the Ottawa Hospital General Campus. Her research work involves the development of decision support systems to help doctors and parents make difficult care decisions, the development of novel medical imaging strategies, and improvements to the province's newborn screening programs.

My program of research focuses on pediatric pain management with two related but distinct areas. The first examines social functioning (particularly close friendships) of adolescents with chronic pain. The second is knowledge translation approaches to improve pain care for hospitalized children in developing countries.

My field of research is called “Be Sweet to Babies” and focuses on reducing pain in babies and children. My studies include effectiveness and utilization of pain management strategies for sick and healthy babies and children. Clinical trials and practice guidelines involving strategies to manage pain in the neonatal unit better. Guidelines for using sucrose (sugar water) before painful procedures for babies in hospital. Anesthetic cream applied to the skin before a poke for bloodwork, again in babies. Involved in clinical trials assessing the efficacy and safety of nasal ventilation in preterm infants.

Dr. Moore is a Clinical Investigator at the CHEO Research Institute and at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute, an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Ottawa and an academic neonatologist practicing at the two level 3 neonatal intensive care units in Ottawa. He has a keen interest in post-graduate medical education, quality of care improvement, communication and bioethics. His main clinical interests are the management of infants with Extremely Low Birth Weight (ELBW), and mechanical ventilation.

Dr. Thébaud studies the mechanisms of lung development, injury and repair in order to design new treatments for incurable lung diseases. Dr. Thébaud has set out an ambitious research program for his lab in order to study clinically-relevant questions for translation into real-life applications. Over the next five years, his goal is to bring safe and effective cell-based therapies for lung diseases into the clinic, and thereby create vast improvements in patient outcomes.
