Secondary Sources – Legal Dictionaries
The most popular Canadian legal dictionaries are:
- the Dictionary of Canadian Law, 3d ed., by Dukelow [KE 183 .D83 2004]; and
- the Canadian Law Dictionary, 4th ed., by Yogis [KE 183 .Y63 1998].
Another commonly used legal dictionary is Black's Law Dictionary, 8th ed., [KF 156 .B53 2004].
- It is an American publication that is also accessible through WLeC.
- However, because this is an American publication, make sure you don't attribute an American definition to a word that has a distinct meaning within the Canadian legal system!
There is also a wide variety of online dictionaries and reference pages.
- A listing of some of these online resources is available here on the Brian Dickson Law Library webpage.
