Secondary Sources – Textbooks: Expert Authority on Settled Law
Textbooks, treatises and restatements of the law cover a single and expansive area of the law.
They usually provide:
- summaries of an area of the law;
- explanations of specific legal subjects;
- analyses, commentaries, interpretations or criticisms of a particular area of the law; and,
- tables of cases and tables of statutes listing relevant case law and legislation.
Most importantly, textbooks often include numerous references to other relevant primary and secondary sources, saving you the trouble of searching for them on your own!
