Virginie Cobigo leads research that supports evidence-based practice in sectors supporting persons with cognitive disabilities and aims to promote the social inclusion of persons with cognitive disabilities. Research information:

Dr. Ivanova is a Clinical Psychologist and a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the Centre for Eating Disorders Research at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute. She obtained her Master’s and Doctoral degrees in Counselling Psychology from the University of Toronto. Her research interests focus on the affective and interpersonal characteristics of eating disorders, as well as the role of emotion and attachment in the context of psychotherapy process and outcome research. In addition to conducting research, she works as part of a multidisciplinary team providing psychological services at the Regional Centre for the Treatment of Eating Disorders, the Ottawa Hospital. She provides supervision to psychology students.

Research information:

For several years I have been conducting research in the field of psychosocial oncology, that is the study of how cancer affects patients and their loved ones. With a growing number of cancer survivors, attention has focused on quality of life post treatment issues. I study commonly encountered difficulties among cancer survivors such as fear of cancer recurrence, stigma, impaired sexuality, and family adjustment. Our ultimate goal is to develop evidence-based intervention for cancer survivors who experience these difficulties.

I am a clinical psychologist. My research generally is related to how people develop anxiety disorders, how these disorders are maintained, and how they can be treated using cognitive behavioural therapy. I am specifically interested in the role played by our thoughts and behaviours in symptoms of anxiety. I also have expertise in emotion regulation, PTSD, and OCD (and their treatments).

In general terms, my research focuses on understanding and promoting children's well-being. In particular, my research examines children's behavioural and emotional development as well as the contexts that can influence development as well as the contexts that can influence development, from the pre-natal environment to neighbourhoods.  My research also examines experiences that can have a negative influence on children's optimal development in particulare child maltreatment. Here, I am interested not only in understanding risk and protective factors, but also in using this knowledge to ensure that the most effective interventions are offered to children and families in which maltreatment has occurred.

Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) is my main field of study. I use this technique with psychiatric and neurologic patients to determine brain processing. I also study the effects of marijuana on executive functioning/cognition using fMRI.
