Research information:

My research looks at social movements and networks of civil society actors promoting food sovereignty, social and environmental justice. I am particularly interested in peasant and citizen movements in Brazil and Mexico involved with La Via Campesina and the World Social Forum (WSF). My work seeks to better understand how these actors are promoting and putting into practice alternative models of agriculture and economic development  that take into account the needs and hopes of local communities and their environment.

Research information:

My main area of expertise is the study of budgetary policies and public finances of federal and provincial governments (with a focus, yet not exclusively, on Ontario, Quebec and British Colombia). I am also interested in the study of democratic institutions (such as Parliament, public consultations mechanisms) and political actors (political parties, independent parliamentary officers) that influence public budgetary choices. My research also leads me to analyse current events occurring on the political scene (especially electoral campaigns and opinion polls)

My research examines issues of transnationalism, migration, identity, and citizenship in Canadian cities with a focus on immigrant settlement, community organizing, migrant and minority groups, and questions of belonging in and through space. My recent projects investigate the everyday experiences of minority groups in the transborder city of Ottawa-Gatineau, the production and consumption of multicultural media, and the role of environmental factors in international migration to Canada.
