Research information:

I study security with an emphasis on border security and migration. My main geographical focus is West Africa, especially the countries of the Sahel region. I pay close attention to the role of new technologies of surveillance and emerging non-state actors.

My geographical areas of expertise are the United States and the Arab Middle East, particularly Lebanon, Palestine/Israel, Egypt, and Kuwait. My thematic areas of expertise are social movements, migrants and migration, refugees, and community organizing and NGOs.
