Legal Citations – The Parallel Citation
The last component of a proper case citation is the parallel citation. Essentially, the parallel citation is an alternate citation to the same case. It directs the reader to a second place where the case has been published.
The inclusion of a parallel citation serves those who may not have full access to an online database or printed case law reports. As such, you will often discover that a case has been published in several different places. A good rule of thumb is to include two parallel print reporter citations, as well as the neutral citation whenever it is available.
