Legal Citations – Legal Dictionary Citations (McGill Guide, 6.4)

The following information is required for a proper dictionary citation:

Title,
  • Italicize the title of the dictionary, followed by a comma.
Edition,
  • Provide the number of the edition in abbreviated form, followed by a comma.
Sub verbo
  • "Sub verbo” is Latin for "under the word.”
"keyword”.
  • Finally, include the word or entry in quotation marks, followed by a period.

EXAMPLE:

Title, Edition, sub verbo "keyword”.
Dictionary of Canadian Law, 3d ed, sub verbo "promissory estoppel”.
