Legal Citations – Citing Legal Sources: General Rules
The ultimate goal of legal citation is to provide the reader with the information required to quickly locate the source material. To achieve this goal you will need a working knowledge of the McGill Guide and the general rules for uniform legal citation.
- You should always ensure that you are consulting the most recent edition of the McGill Guide because it is often re-issued with new rules or changes.
- Currently, the McGill Guide is in its 8th edition.
Wherever italicized font is required as part of a citation, use underlined font when submitting a hand-written document.
