Dr. Bariciak specializes in the care of critically ill and extremely premature newborn infants in the Neonatal Intensive Care Units at the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario and the Ottawa Hospital General Campus. Her research work involves the development of decision support systems to help doctors and parents make difficult care decisions, the development of novel medical imaging strategies, and improvements to the province's newborn screening programs.

My main field of interests are in the role of law in determining how people experience health care systems. I am an expert on the Canada Health Act, public vs. private insurance, the right to health and how we make decisions about what health care is publicly funded or not. I am also an expert on comparative health care systems: how Canada’s health care systems performs relative to others. I have also written, for example, on how to implement pharmacare. More recently my work has expanded to look at issues of regulating quality, safety and privacy issues of new digital health and AI health innovations.
