Using CanLII – Introduction

The Canadian Legal Information Institute (CanLII) is a free online legal research service. It is a large database that indexes Canadian, Provincial, and Territorial case law, legislation, and adjudicative rulings.
It is available at the following website: http://www.canlii.org.

Unfortunately, CanLII has yet to be recognized as an official source for case law and legislation. Until then, you must cite Ontario legislation to an official print source (i.e. S.O. or R.S.O.), the e-Laws website, or a commercial service provider.
