For the strategic military historian, it doesn’t get much better than hearing firsthand about a battle from an actual participant, on the spot where the action occurred. Assistant history professor Galen Perras (left) learned that lesson this fall, when he travelled with a team from the United States-based History Channel, along with U.S. Army veteran Dean Galles, to the remote Aleutian Islands.
A working committee composed of representatives from all faculties worked hard over several months to review uOttawa’s strategic areas of development in research. Its recommendations have now been approved by the University’s Senate and Board of Governors.
Although the 2005 University of Ottawa United Way Campaign did not meet its $358,000 goal, a record amount of $351,137 was raised for community agencies in Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec.

The Faculty of Medicine has signed formal five-year agreements that will renew and reinforce its partnership with the following institutions: The Ottawa Hospital, the Montfort Hospital, The Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario, The Royal Ottawa Health Care Group, Sisters of Charity of Ottawa Health Service, the University of Ottawa Heart Institute and the Queensway Carleton Hospital.
Research by Professor David Zussman, Jarislowsky Chair in Public Sector Management at the University of Ottawa, shows that most Canadians distrust government and are increasingly cynical towards politicians.
