Accords reinforce medical partnerships

The Faculty of Medicine has signed formal five-year agreements that will renew and reinforce its partnership with the following institutions: The Ottawa Hospital, the Montfort Hospital, The Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario, The Royal Ottawa Health Care Group, Sisters of Charity of Ottawa Health Service, the University of Ottawa Heart Institute and the Queensway Carleton Hospital.

The agreements, designed to achieve a new level of cooperation in education between the Faculty of Medicine and its partner hospitals, will enhance the quality of patient care in eastern Ontario by making clinical opportunities more accessible to medical students and residents.

“Of course, the University and its partners have been cooperating for a long time in medical research and education,” says uOttawa President Gilles Patry. “But these agreements bring this cooperation to a higher level. They allow us to pool our human, physical and financial resources to establish, right here in the nation’s capital, an unparalleled network for education, health, research and clinical care.”

“These agreements will allow the hospitals to have more access to our students, medical residents, professors and researchers,” says Peter Walker, dean of the Faculty of Medicine. “That in turn will mean better care for families and individuals living in the capital region.”
