Dr. Jason Nickerson, RRT, FCSRT, PhD is the Senior Director of Public Policy for the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists (CSRT), an Investigator at the Bruyère Health Research Institute in Ottawa and an Adjunct Professor of Common Law at the University of Ottawa’s Centre for Health Law, Policy and Ethics. Dr. Nickerson holds a PhD in Population Health and has worked extensively in global public health and health systems strengthening in Canada and internationally, including spending more than a decade with the medical humanitarian organization Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) where he served as the Humanitarian Representative to Canada. He has worked in humanitarian health responses during armed conflicts, disease epidemics, and sudden onset disasters including in Afghanistan, Haiti, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Central African Republic. His research focuses on the care of acutely ill older adults (particularly in long-term care settings), access to healthcare for marginalized populations, and the development of medical countermeasures for emerging infectious diseases. He has a particular interest in emerging and high-consequence infectious diseases and neglected tropical diseases, including Ebola, Marburg, Lassa Fever, pandemic and avian influenza, and COVID-19. His work focuses on the epidemiology and public health impacts of high-consequence infectious diseases, and also on the development and use of medical countermeasures such as vaccines, therapeutics, and diagnostic tests, including the relevance of Canadian innovation funding and pharmaceutical policy on the development of new medical technologies. As a respiratory therapist, he is able to provide commentary and expert opinion on respiratory illnesses, access to healthcare in Canada, and health policy issues. Drawing on his decade of experience as a senior humanitarian official, Dr. Nickerson is able to provide commentary and expert opinion on armed conflicts and wars, Canadian and international foreign policy, and natural disasters.Domaine(s) de spécialisation :
