Over the next few weeks, new menu items will be introduced to the campus eateries. Seven locations across campus will be renovated or updated to reflect the new items. Changes include:

  • A new organic option at Café Alt (formerly Café Alternatif) in Simard;
  • Sweet Sins Coffee & Treats (formerly Moustapha’s), in the University Centre, will offer espresso, cappuccino, pastries, sandwiches and more;
  • Buffet UCU (formerly Jazzy Resto-Pub), in the University Centre, will offer an all-you-can-eat luncheon buffet including international items;
  • Upper Crust (formerly Presto Café), in the University Centre, will offer fresh, fast and filling food for people on the move;
  • The renovations in Fauteux Hall will include a lounge, where paninis, salads and ready-made entrees will be available;
  • A Rez Café menu expansion will add a variety of hot entrees and a conveyor oven for personal pizzas; and
  • The opening of Café 199, in Marion, will offer unique and inexpensive food service options for students and staff.

Since early January, all locations have offered a “balanced choice” menu of healthier food options.  Based on Canada’s Food Guide to Healthy Eating and as a result of an increasing demand for more healthy food and beverage choices, the new menu items will include everything from full meals to quick “On the Go” items like salads, sandwiches, and snacks.

Food identification symbols identify balanced and vegetarian choices. To be considered a balanced choice, the item must be a source of one or more of iron, calcium, vitamin A, C or D.  They also must contain less than a specified amount of fat and sodium appropriate for that food.

In most of the food service areas, nutritional and wellness information will be available.
