Eateries to offer healthier food options in 2006

Over the next few weeks, new menu items will be introduced to the campus eateries. Seven locations across campus will be renovated or updated to reflect the new items. Changes include:

Since early January, all locations have offered a “balanced choice” menu of healthier food options.  Based on Canada’s Food Guide to Healthy Eating and as a result of an increasing demand for more healthy food and beverage choices, the new menu items will include everything from full meals to quick “On the Go” items like salads, sandwiches, and snacks.

Food identification symbols identify balanced and vegetarian choices. To be considered a balanced choice, the item must be a source of one or more of iron, calcium, vitamin A, C or D.  They also must contain less than a specified amount of fat and sodium appropriate for that food.

In most of the food service areas, nutritional and wellness information will be available.
