My team studies the strange and uniquely quantum behaviour of single particles of light, photons. Our goal is to build computers and sensors inside which all the information is carried on photons. Such ‘quantum computers’ will be able to solve problems that are currently intractable and such sensors will have dramatically enhanced sensitivity.

Our research group uses ultrafast optical techniques to improve the general understanding of microscopic interactions and quantum transitions in materials. We rely on lasers and custom-made optical tools to study the physical origin of some of the most intriguing phenomena such as superconductivity. We study and explore ultrafast dynamics inside 2D materials, semiconductors, organic compounds and biological samples.Area(s) of expertise:
