Marc Drolet, a fourth-year commerce student, received a United Way Ottawa Community Builder Award in recognition of his volunteer work on behalf of the Quinlan Adult Developmental Centre.
Two years ago, Drolet joined the Best Buddies program through the University of Ottawa chapter. The program matches university students with developmentally handicapped adults in a variety of social activities.
The 23-year-old student also plays a key role in promoting the centre’s art program, which raises funds by marketing artworks produced by its clients. Drolet developed a marketing plan for the artwork and created a brochure to promote the program. He is working closely with two nursing students from uOttawa to organize a show that will take place in February. They have obtained matching funds from Scotiabank.
Drolet is headed to Mexico as an exchange student for a year and he will be presenting the art program concept to community agencies in that country.
As an award recipient, Drolet will see his name added to the permanent Community Builder Wall of Inspiration at city hall.
