Engineer and jurist receive Order of Ontario

Tyseer Aboulnasr, former dean of the Faculty of Engineering, and Justice René J. Marin are among this year’s 29 recipients of the Order of Ontario.

A professor in electrical engineering at the School of Information Technology and Engineering, Aboulnasr was the first woman to chair the Council of Ontario Deans of Engineering. She was dean of the faculty from 1998 to 2004.

A University of Ottawa graduate, federal judge René J. Marin has been associated for more than 25 years with the Faculty of Law as a part-time professor. He is considered a pioneer in the use of French in law in Ontario, both in classrooms and in the courts. He has helped train generations of jurists, enabling them to practice in French.

The Order of Ontario — the province’s highest and most prestigious honour — recognizes people who have enriched the lives of others by attaining the highest standards of excellence and achievement in their respective fields.
