Two University of Ottawa professors are among the eight winners of the sixth annual Governor General’s Awards in Visual and Media Arts: photographer Lynne Cohen and sculptor Roland Poulin.
Lynne Cohen, a professor in the Department of Visual Arts since 1974, is one of the most important artists working today in photography. She is represented in 47 public collections, including the National Gallery of Canada, the Bibliothèque nationale de France, the Art Institute of Chicago and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
The career of retired professor Roland Poulin spans more than 40 years. His sculptures and drawings have been exhibited in 26 solo and over 70 group exhibitions across Canada, as well as in Belgium, France, Great Britain, Germany and the U.S. His work is found in many Canadian collections and he has received several distinctions recognizing his lifetime’s work.
A selection of the two artists’ works will be part of an exhibition at the National Gallery of Canada until April 11, 2005.
