CIHR funding tops $30 million

In 2003-2004, the Faculty of Medicine received almost $31 million in funding from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), an amount sufficient to rank the faculty 7th nationally and 2nd in Ontario.

The total funding represents 292 grants and awards, yielding a figure of $105,000 per award—the highest in Canada by a significant margin.

“My interpretation of these figures is twofold,” says Dean Peter Walker. “First, they show we are highly competitive in securing total grants and awards. Second, they highlight the quality of our investigators.”
