Showcase on advanced technologies for better health

Research that bridges engineering with medicine will be the highlight of the 2005 University of Ottawa Research Showcase, which takes place on February 22, 2005 at the Smyth Road campus. During the morning event, experts will share their insights and reveal the advances in technology and applications for improved health and education.

Bringing together researchers, chief technology officers, CEOs, investors, professionals, funding agents, and students, the showcase will address a variety of topics related to the diversity and complexity of living systems and human health.

University of Ottawa researchers will also give examples of successful industry partnerships and the various government research programs that they have used to advance their research.

The keynote address will start the showcase and will be given by Edward Lemaire. A professor in the faculties of Medicine and Health Sciences, Lemaire is also research associate at the Institute for Rehabilitation Research and Development and president of the International Society of Prosthetics and Orthotics (Canada). His presentation will outline cases in which successful industry-academic partnerships have resulted in technology transfer from the laboratory to the consumer.

The event will run from 8:45 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Tuesday, February 22, in the Atrium and Amphitheatre A of Roger Guindon Hall. Registration starts at 7:30 a.m. There is no cost to attend this event, but advanced registration is requested. For more information, please contact Louise Sanon at lsanon@uOttawa.ca, or at 562-5399.
