Early birds raise lunch money

Some students will be getting up early on Sunday, October 19 to help raise money that may keep them or their friends well fed and healthy during the school year.

The University of Ottawa's fifth annual Run and Walk For Lunch is a competitive race and recreational event that raises money for the Student Meal Bursary program. “Some students can’t always make ends meet through the school year,” says Rector Gilles Patry. “The program allows us to provide students with food vouchers they can cash in at local grocery stores. It’s an important safety net.”

The event is open to everyone and participants are eligible to win great prizes. Back by popular demand, a silent auction will feature Senators tickets, handheld computers, a Wakefield Mill package, and much more.

How can you participate? Choose an event (5 km walk, 5 km and 10 km run, and 5 km and 10 km wheelchair event). Download the registration form and collect pledges.

If running or walking isn't your cup of tea, you can volunteer to help out on the day of the race. To volunteer, contact Francine LaFrance at extension 1517 or send an e-mail to franklf@uottawa.ca.
