Philanthropic efforts recognized

Marc Jolicoeur is a tireless frontline volunteer for the University of Ottawa, while Marie des Anges Loyer has established a number of scholarships for uOttawa students. On November 17, the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) paid tribute to them for their philanthropic efforts.

A long-time professor and former dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Loyer received the ‘Outstanding Individual Philanthropist’ award. Now retired, she remains active as a volunteer in the community. As an alumna of the University, Loyer once said that she wanted to give students the same chance she had.

Jolicoeur, who was named an ‘Outstanding Volunteer,’ is chair of the Board of Governors and a member of the National Cabinet of the Campaign for Canada's university. He is well-known for his community work with a number of organizations including the United Way, La Cité collégiale, the Ottawa Community Foundation and the former Ottawa Civic Hospital. Jolicoeur leads the Business Law Practice Group at the national law firm of Borden Ladner Gervais.

The AFP represents 26,000 members in 172 chapters throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico and China.
