Professor Diane Pacom from the sociology department continues to garner awards. Less than a month after receiving the excellence in teaching award conferred by the Ontario Confederation of University Faculty Association, Pacom has been presented with a prestigious 3M Fellowship for Teaching Excellence in Higher Education. The 3M award is Canada’s only teaching award that recognizes excellence in interdisciplinary teaching.
“I am very flattered and honoured to receive this award. It is not only a recognition of my work as a professor, but it also confirms my choices and commitment to teaching,” Pacom said. “This recognition is possible because my students allow me to be the best.”
An expert in cultural sociology and contemporary sociology theories, Pacom is devoted to her students and encourages them to be critical thinkers.
Pacom is very involved in the community. She is a frequent guest speaker at conferences and is regularly quoted and interviewed by media on the realities of contemporary youth.
She also received an Capital Educators’ Award in 2002 and the Rector’s Award for service to the University through media and community relations in 2003.
