uOttawa law team places third in global competition

A team from the Faculty of Law placed third at the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot – the best finish ever for the University of Ottawa at this global competition.

The team, coached by former team member Anthony Daimsis, was made up of Amy Awad (second year, Common Law), Alexandra Wilson (second year, Common Law), Alexander MacAngus (National Program – Common Law) and Julie Lambert (National Program – Civil Law). They beat three opponents to reach the semi-finals where they lost a close match to the team that went on to win the competition.

Amy Awad received an honorable mention for the Martin Domke Award given to the best individual oralist in the general rounds.

Graduate Scott Rothwell who completed the National Program in 2001 and was a member of the Faculty of Law’s Vis team that year participated at this year’s competition for the University of Stockholm where he is completing a degree in international commercial arbitration.

This year’s Willem C. Vis competition brought together law students from 136 schools in 42 countries, including the top European, American, Asian and Australian schools to test their expertise in international commercial law and arbitration. The competition was held in Vienna, April 3 to 8, 2004.
