United Way Campaign ranks fourth

The University of Ottawa United Way Campaign ranks fourth among workplace campaigns according to the 2004 Book of Lists published by the Ottawa Business Journal.

The University community raised $328,850 for United Way in 2003, which represented 14 percent more than in 2002. In the national capital region only the campaigns of the City of Ottawa, Nortel Networks and Canada Post raised higher amounts. The list does not include the Government of Canada Workplace Charitable Campaign.

Of the total amount raised by the University, approximately $74,000 went to Centraide Outaouais, which means that the University's campaign was the third largest workplace campaign on the Quebec side of the Ottawa River, after those of the federal and provincial public service.

“The United Way committee at the University of Ottawa has all the ingredients for a successful workplace campaign, said Guylaine Beaulieu, who is in charge of philanthropic development for Centraide Outaouais. Among these factors, she mentioned support for senior administration, volunteer commitment, representation in each faculty and unit, and special initiatives for major donors.

“Such efficiency gives national visibility to the University of Ottawa,” Beaulieu said. The campaign is often cited as a model that other organizations could use, she added.
