Rector Gilles Patry speaks on Canada’s university

Gilles PatryCanada's university! The expression instills pride. Pride in our achievements, and pride in those dynamic and committed individuals who have contributed to our success. This statement is supported by a number of other attributes that, collectively, are unique to the University of Ottawa.

Let's think of our strategic location in the heart of Ottawa, Canada's political and high-tech capital city, and how our students, professors and researchers benefit from our proximity to an exciting range of national institutions, services and resources. At the same time, the University of Ottawa constitutes a vibrant part of the National Capital Region, contributing actively to its social, cultural and economic life.

Let's think of our diversity. With faculty and students originating from more than 150 countries, the University of Ottawa is one of Canada's most cosmopolitan post-secondary institutions. True to one of our nation's most cherished ideals, we see our diversity as an enduring source of strength and inspiration. Also, as Canada's premier bilingual university, we live and work in our country's two official languages, enabling our students to study in either English or French. Without taking anything away from other Canadian universities, the University of Ottawa is Canada's university.
