Evan Potter’s research focuses on how Canada and other G8 countries projecting their images around the world using cultural diplomacy, the power of their ideas, and communications tools such as television, radio, and the Internet to create compelling national images.
Over the last two decades, globalization and the communications revolution have made every country more aware of its image and reputation in the world. Influencing foreign public opinion is now critical for nations who wish to build international coalitions against terrorism, encourage initiatives to protect the environment, attract investments or accomplish any other objective with an international component.
Potter contends that countries that neglect their national images in the “information age” will rapidly disappear from the global conversation. This disappearance can result in declines in economic prosperity, diplomatic influence and nationalism.
