Shelley Coolidge, Head Coach and Program Manager, Gee-Gees Women’s Hockey

What is your most important function at the University and why?

My most important function is student-athlete development. These young women are tomorrow’s leaders. With sport as their vehicle, they are amazing role models for young girls in our community.

What inspires you most about your job?

The passion, the effort and the commitment that 23 brilliant young women bring to the arena every day is most inspiring to me.

Of what are you most proud?

Seeing people achieve their goals and overcome the obstacles with which they are faced.

What would your co-workers be most surprised to know about you?

I love the spa!

What is your favourite pastime?

Riding my motorcycle, long walks in the rain, reading a book on the deck, golfing and listening to a variety of music are some of my favourites.

You’ve just won a $1 million. What would you do?

I’d donate some of it to the Gee-Gees Women’s Hockey Program, pay off my debts, invest 75 per cent of it, and take a trip to England and Scotland.

Which four people (living or dead) would you invite to a dinner party? Tell us why.

Mother Teresa – What drove her?
Oprah Winfrey – A woman that has the drive and determination to leave the world in a better place than she found it.
Jann Arden –  I love her music and humour.
Anne Murray – A Canadian legend who is able to balance a successful career, raise a family and keep her circle of friends.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

Coaching the CIS National Champion Gee-Gees Women’s Hockey Program in front of a sold-out crowd!

What is the best-kept secret in your service?

Gee-Gees games are great games. We should all take the time to support each other’s events on campus to establish uOttawa as Canada’s leader in school spirit.
