In tandem with the cumulative growth in graduate studies, the University has been developing resources and implementing services to promote and enhance student success. The Graduate Student Resource and Mentoring Centre is a new service to help graduate students meet their academic goals.

The University’s Student Academic Success Service (SASS) in collaboration with the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies and Morisset Library officially launched the Centre on January 22. This new project gives students in master’s and doctoral programs the opportunity to meet and talk with graduate student-mentors and address any concerns they may have during the course of their studies.

According to Ruth Philion, acting director of SASS, the creation of the centre marks “another milestone” for SASS, which drew its inspiration for graduate mentoring from the success of its undergraduate Student Mentorship Program.

The opening of the Centre coincided with the annual CIBC Mentorship Scholarship Awards, which recognizes undergraduate students who dedicate their time and energy to other students through SASS’s Student Mentorship Program.

This year’s recipients are: Laila Adassi of the School of Human Kinetics; Jean-Michel Fréchette of the Biomedical Sciences Program; Amélie Maxwell of the Lettres françaises and Linguistics programs; Geoffrey Parent of the Biomedical Sciences and Environment Studies programs; and Adolphe Tetsekoua of the School of Nursing.
