University shows environmental leadership

The uOttawa community will celebrate International Car Free Day by reclaiming parking lot X near Vanier Hall on Friday, September 21, and using it for environmental education instead of parking.

“Car Free Day” is an international event celebrated in more than 1,500 cities worldwide to raise awareness of the negative impacts created by our dependency on cars. Last year, the University of Ottawa was the only institution in Ottawa that participated in the event. It continues to be a local, provincial and national leader in matters of environmental responsibility.

The event will feature:
• Free bike repairs
• Bike theft prevention demonstrations
• Information tables promoting environmental awareness and action (all day)
• Free rickshaw rides
• Lunchtime barbecue
• CHUO DJ

Make September 21 – and everyday thereafter – a day to walk, bike, rollerblade, take public transit or carpool to the University.
