A new home for Education and Visual Arts

In response to the extraordinary growth in the University of Ottawa’s population in recent years, the University’s Five-Year Facilities Renewal and Expansion Plan maps the path to improving facilities and services on campus for current and future students.

An important component of the plan is the expansion to the former Algonquin College campus at 200 Lees Avenue, which is currently undergoing extensive renovations to the existing buildings. This extension to the University’s downtown campus underwent a full environmental impact study prior to the decision to purchase the Algonquin College space. It will provide an extra 230,000 gross square feet for the University.

To meet the needs of a growing faculty and the diverse physical requirements of visual arts students, 200 Lees Avenue will become home to the Faculty of Education and to the Department of Visual Arts starting in September 2008. As well, with increasing demands on the athletic facilities across campus, Sports Services will begin making use of the gymnasium at 200 Lees Ave. as of September 2007.

More details will be available on the development of 200 Lees Avenue and on the Renewal and Expansion Plan in an upcoming issue of the Gazette.
