Husky Energy’s commitment to social responsibility was shown again when, on June 21, John Lau, President and Chief Executive Officer, announced a $1-million endowed gift to the University of Ottawa. The gift establishes the Husky Energy Endowment Fund in support of the Husky Energy Fellowships in Sedimentology and Petroleum Geology. The University will match the donation creating a $2-million endowment fund.

Husky Energy’s commitment to education has extended to many other educational institutions, including the University of Calgary, Memorial University and Lakeland College. “To make a country grow, focus on education and research,” said Lau when announcing the donation at a reception attended by students, staff, faculty and special guests, including Senator Daniel Hays.

The new fellowships at uOttawa will provide financial support to post-doctoral, doctoral and master’s students, enabling them to assist with research conducted in clastic sedimentology – the study of rocks and sediments marked by erosion – and petroleum geology at the Department of Earth Sciences in the Faculty of Science.

The first fellows will be selected in 2008.
