Each year, the Faculty of Arts hosts an exhibition of publications by its professors, providing faculty with an important opportunity to recognize and celebrate the outstanding work of faculty members. This year was no exception, with the presentation of three awards of distinction.

Ruby Heap, professor with the Department of History, was presented with the Professor of the Year Award. Professor Heap has made an outstanding contribution both to the Faculty of Arts and to the University, notably through her involvement with the creation of the Institute of Women’s Studies.
The Young Researcher of the Year Award was granted to Michel Fournier, Department of Lettres françaises. Fournier’s research focuses on 17th-century French literature.
For the first time this year, the Faculty offered the Part-time Professor of the Year Award. As George Lang, dean of the Faculty of Arts, noted, “The creation of this award was long overdue, given the considerable contributions that part-time professors make to the University of Ottawa.”
Cyril Dabydeen, a prolific author and part-time professor with the Department of English, is the first recipient of this award. Professor Dabydeen was also recently long-listed for the 2007 IMPAC Dublin Literary Award, the largest prize of its kind, for his novel Drums of My Flesh.
