Dr. Ian Stiell and Professor Caroline Andrew, two exceptional academic leaders, have been appointed to the rank of Distinguished University Professor for 2006-2007. Conferred annually since 2000, this honour can be held by only 10 professors at one time.
The title of Distinguished University Professor recognizes each of these professors for their exceptional scholarly achievement and pre-eminence in their field, as well as their steadfast contributions to teaching and graduate studies.
Dr. Ian Stiell, University Health Research Chair holder and clinical epidemiologist in the Faculty of Medicine, focuses on health services research in emergency medicine. He was among the leaders responsible for creating the University of Ottawa’s Department of Emergency Medicine in 2003, which he currently chairs.
Professor Caroline Andrew’s professional career at the University of Ottawa spans more than 30 years. A former dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences (1997-2005), she is a full professor at the School of Political Studies and the Director of the Centre on Governance. She is a nationally recognized authority on urban and feminist studies, as well as on cultural diversity.
