Alumna is new SSHRC vice-president

Chad Gaffield, president of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) recently announced the appointment of Gisèle Yasmeen to the new position of vice-president, partnerships. She will be responsible for leading and directing partnership development and knowledge mobilization, effective January 2, 2007.

Yasmeen was most recently senior director of the Outreach, Communications and Research Directorate of Elections Canada. Her previous appointments include serving as regional director (British Columbia/Yukon) of the Centre for Research and Information on Canada, and its host organization, the Canadian Unity Council. She has also held teaching and research appointments at the University of British Columbia and Dawson College in Westmount, Québec. She is the author of numerous publications.

Yasmeen holds a PhD from the University of British Columbia (1996), a master’s degree from McGill University (1991) and a BA (Honours) from the University of Ottawa (1988).
