Fall enrolment shows increase

 
   
With a total of 34,501 full-time and part-time students, enrolment at the University has increased by 1,171 or 3.5 per cent since September 2005.

The faculties of Social Sciences and Arts continue to attract the greatest number of undergraduate students with 6,857 and 6,806 respectively. In addition to their undergraduate success, Arts and Social Sciences have attracted the most graduate students this fall with 236 and 228 new admissions respectively.

The Faculty of Health Sciences has also seen significant growth, especially in human kinetics and nursing, increasing from 234 students in 2005 to 289 in 2006.

International students are an important component of the student body with 2,064 students on campus. The top ten source countries are China, France, Saudi Arabia, Iran, United States, South Korea, India, Libya, Lebanon and Mexico.

The quality of students entering the University of Ottawa continues to rise with an increase of 19 per cent of first-year students entering with a 90 per cent and higher average.
