2006 Interdisciplinary Research Prize awarded
Six researchers in the challenging field of palliative care are recipients of the 2006 Interdisciplinary Research Prize.
Together, Dr. Pippa Hall (Faculty of Medicine), Susan Brajtman (School of Nursing), Lynn Casimiro, PhD candidate (Faculty of Education), Michael Clarke (Faculty of Medicine), Peter Barnes (Human Sciences, Saint Paul University), and Lynda Weaver (SCO Health Service) have made an outstanding contribution to interdisciplinary research in this field.
Palliative care is a clinical discipline that relies heavily on interdisciplinary work in order to meet the complex care needs of individuals reaching the end of their lives. However, interdisciplinary research remains a major challenge in health sciences given that all professionals involved — physicians, nurses, social workers, occupational therapists and physiotherapists — have been trained in their own disciplinary traditions.
The financial support of the Interdisciplinary Research Prize will allow Dr. Hall and her team to continue their innovative research into determining how to best provide accessible programs to meet the complex needs of caregivers working in the discipline of palliative care.
