What is your most important function at the University?Helping to link the objectives and activities of the University to opportunities with the federal, provincial and municipal governments. Much of the University's funding comes from government; it’s important to have close contact with those who are making decisions about the future of that funding.
What is it about your job that inspires you most? The Government Relations Office was only created in July, but I have been overwhelmed – positively so – by the amazing work that is being done across campus. The idea of representing this to governments is exciting.
What would you change in the world today if you could? That each of us would be more keenly aware of our fellow human beings. We are blessed to live in this country with its relative affluence, freedom and opportunity. We should be more prepared to share such blessings.
Who is the most influential person in your life? I have been privileged to have several significant personal and professional mentors over the years. But my spouse, Shelia Morrison, is the most influential person in my life AND my greatest friend.
What would your co-workers be most surprised to know about you?I was supposed to become a sports writer, but was hijacked by the politics/policy bug in university.
What is your favourite pastime?Reading, playing golf and wheezing my way around the hockey rink.
What is the best-kept secret in your office? The Government Relations Office is brand new and so is still a secret to many on campus. I hope to change that in the coming year.
