Community support is a hallmark of the University of Ottawa. The United Way is an excellent demonstration of this commitment. In 2005, the uOttawa United Way Campaign collected $358,000, placing the University sixth out of the 92 universities in Canada.

Once again this year, you have an opportunity to change peoples’ lives and contribute to the well-being of our community. The funds raised through the campaign support several objectives: frontline programs for children and youth, help for individuals and families in crisis, reducing barriers for new Canadians and immigrants, help for the elderly or disabled, and the call for volunteering and community action. This year, you will have a special opportunity to contribute directly to the well-being of our students at the University of Ottawa by giving to the newly created Student Aid Fund, which will provide immediate financial aid for students in crisis.

The 2006 Campaign runs from October 10 to November 1. We hope that based on the success of past years and coupled with the arrival of new professors, it will be possible to reach our target goal of $365,000. To reach our goal, we need your participation. Every donation matters.

Please join us for the United Way campaign launch barbecue on Tuesday, October 10 at noon on the steps outside Montpetit Hall. Bring along your loonies and toonies to support our new Student Aid Fund. The service or faculty to create the longest line of loonies and toonies will be our “Everyday Hero.”

Be part of this year’s campaign “Je donne. J’aide / The way I give.”
