Mercedes Déziel-Hupé As autumn approaches, back-to-school preparations become a major event for many families. For students, this often entails a transition from the comforts of home to the challenges of living in a new city. Here are some of the measures the University of Ottawa is taking to welcome its new recruits.
As part of Move In Weekend, students will be welcomed at Ottawa’s airport, train station and bus station, and conveniently shuttled to campus. The Gee-Gees football team will be on hand to help students unload and carry heavy items. The President’s Brunch on September 3, at Tabaret Hall, will surely alleviate the butterflies of lingering parents. Dinner time will see 2,000 people come together for the Rally, featuring live bands, and crowned by a Gee-Gees football game.
Come stir it up at Fedstock, a dynamic concert being held on September 4 at Confederation Park. Considered the biggest celebration of the week, the uOttawa community will be delighted to see Ill Scarlett, Malajube, Kardinal Offishall and Hedley take the stage.
Social conscience is fostered at the University. On September 5, students will hit the streets for Shinerama, a fundraising campaign that aids Cystic Fibrosis research. The Student Federation is ready to do anything — that’s right, even shine shoes — to meet its new $100,000 fundraising goal.
