To celebrate the partnership of two of the national capital’s oldest institutions, the University of Ottawa dedicated the Ottawa Citizen Terrace, on May 30. The terrace is located at the west entrance to Tabaret Hall, at the corner of Laurier Avenue East and Waller Street (the Transitway).
“The
Ottawa Citizen is one of only a few Ottawa organizations that predate the University of Ottawa,” said President Gilles Patry. “Naming this terrace recognizes our long history together in the city.”
The
Ottawa Citizen was created as the
Ottawa Packet in 1845, and was renamed the Ottawa Citizen in 1851, during the University of Ottawa’s third year of existence.
Ottawa Citizen publisher, James Orban, who is a member of the University’s Board of Governors and an alumnus, noted the similar mission of both partners who are “a reflection, an observatory and catalyst of the Canadian experience in all its complexity and diversity.”
