Speech recognition system will handle calls

An automated speech recognition system will soon be in operation at 613 562-5800, after hours and on weekends. With this technology, people calling the University, who do not know the extension they are trying to reach, will be able to simply say the name of a person or a unit and the system will direct the call to the proper extension.

Computing and Communication Services (CCS) will be linking data from the current directory of University employees and units with the speech recognition system. The system’s reliability depends on the accuracy of this information.

You can review your personal listing in the directory by entering your name in the first search box at www.uOttawa.ca/search. To update your information, contact the administrative officer listed for your unit. There is a link to the list just under the search box.

Administrative officers are also encouraged to regularly update the information pertaining to their respective units.

The new system is expected to be in place by late June 2006.
