Bruce Firestone, first entrepreneur-in-residence

Many people would consider a career like Bruce Firestone’s enough for one lifetime. Yet the man responsible for the re-birth of the Ottawa Senators is joining the School of Management as its first entrepreneur-in-residence.

Firestone has a long track record guiding dozens of companies, from real estate to high-tech to service industry companies. He brought the NHL back to the nation’s capital after a nearly 60-year absence, winning an expansion franchise when few people thought it was possible. In addition, he is a lecturer with experience in both the fields of entrepreneurship and architecture. Firestone won the Capital Educators Award in 2002 and received the Canada 125 Medal. He is also a licensed realtor.

“I’m excited by this new role at the University of Ottawa, where my father, Professor O. J. Firestone, taught economics for many years,” said Firestone. “I look forward to adding to the spirit, teaching, practice and research of entrepreneurship that I know is already flourishing at the School of Management.”

Firestone joins an already impressive group of executives-in-residence at the school. They are successful professionals, who either divide their time between their careers and their role at the school, or work on campus full-time.
