Funding promised in 2005 budget starting to flow

The University of Ottawa received much needed funding from the Ontario government through its Quality Improvement Fund. The government announced the funding at a press conference on January 26, 2006.

The University will receive $8.7 million to help hire 35 faculty and academic staff and 36 support staff and to offer more teaching assistantships to graduate students, which will increase opportunities for small groups and individual attention in undergraduate programs. Some of the funds will be used to expand library resources and access, and increase the use of technology in classrooms.

The University will also strengthen academic support services for students, expand student mentorship networks and provide more scholarships. It plans, as well, to reach out to the Aboriginal community, visible minorities and persons with disabilities, and to create the Aboriginal Resource Centre to support Aboriginal students.
