Students can “master” bilingualism at uOttawa starting this September
OTTAWA, January 21, 2014 — The University of Ottawa, the largest English/ French bilingual university in the world, is proud to announce that starting in this September, students will be able pursue a master’s in bilingualism studies, the first program of its kind in Canada.
The program will be offered by the Official Languages and Bilingualism Institute (OLBI), and draw on the expertise of professors from a variety of departments. It will equip students with advanced research skills, through a specialized research methodology course, extensive writing of research papers and, where applicable, thesis-related research.
“This new graduate program is an example of how we are expanding and diversifying our program offerings to improve the quality of the student experience and strengthen our commitment to bilingualism and Francophone communities,” said Allan Rock, University of Ottawa president.
The program will offer a strong graduate education in bilingualism studies. It will focus on several critical issues in the field of applied linguistics, including methodological and technological innovations in adult second language instruction, assessment of adult second language skills, and language policy and planning.
