Contribution promotes a greener future

Starting in September 2007, a new bursary will be available to students who are enrolled in programs with an environmental focus.

The TD Green Bursary has been established with a $500,000 donation from TD Bank Financial Group. The University of Ottawa will provide matching funds bringing the total value of the bursary fund to $1 million, says David Mitchell, vice-president for university relations.

The bursary, open to any University of Ottawa student focusing his or her studies on an aspect of the environment, will be provided a minimum of $1,000 and a maximum of 50 per cent of the student’s tuition. The number of bursaries will vary depending on the income generated on the endowment.

“This bursary is not just about environmental commitment today — it’s about a vision for environmental progress well into the future,” says President Gilles Patry, whose own area of expertise is in wastewater treatment.
