Professor Tony Durst, former chair of the Department of Chemistry and former vice-dean of the Faculty of Science, was recognized as an Outstanding Individual Philanthropist by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) – Ottawa Chapter at its annual awards ceremony.
The Outstanding Youth Award was given to uOttawa student, Laila Adassi.
Durst was nominated by the Faculty of Science in recognition of the time he spends with his students, his vision for creating the Biopharmaceutical Sciences Program, the most popular program in the faculty, his philanthropic donations (creation of several scholarships) and his role as mentor to students.
In addition Durst and his wife Mary are regular donors to a host of charitable organizations and have sponsored a family in India for more than two decades.
